Multimedia developer and teacher
My name is Eric Muehling. I'm a multimedia developer employed by the Geophysical Institute on the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus. I create interactive science lessons using Adobe Flash and other technologies. Examples of this multimedia work include the Hawai'i Tsunami Education Curriculum, Cryospheric Connection, Cyber-enabled Education, Alaska Tsunami Education Program and the Arctic Climate Modeling Program.
I have been an instructor of multimedia for the UAF Department of Journalism. I'm proud to show these examples of student work in multimedia.
The Denali National Park Project
The Denali National Park Project is an interactive DVD with educational games and activities about Denali National Park and Preserve. The Denali National Park Project is available in the UA Museum gift shop and elsewhere. The programming and development of this personal project took me nearly four years (evenings and weekends). The Denali National Park Project (website | Facebook | YouTube) includes interactive edu-games, puzzles, more than 120 photos, a complete set of topographic hiking maps, and an overview of the science, geography and history of the park.
Rental cabins and renewable energy
My rental business Nature Cabins LLC provides clean, quiet and private rental cabins near the University of Alaska Fairbanks. I'm interested in renewable energy, and my two solar cabins each have 5kw PV solar arrays which produce more electricity than the tenants use annually (imagine a zero-net-energy footprint just 100 miles south of the Arctic Circle). I'm working on a do-it-yourself wind generator, and a solar hot water heater for outdoor showers.
Other interests
Toastmasters International, running and camping. I support the Fairbanks Community Food Bank, Big Brothers Big Sisters, KUAC Public Radio, Doctors Without Borders, United Way of the Tanana Valley, and others. I provide consulting for Visualize ASL (American Sign Language).
